Dear John,

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and that the new year is off to a great start.

I’m writing today with great news: thanks to your support, the Fraser Institute hit the ground running in 2026.

In just the first few weeks of the year, we’ve published commentaries across the country on everything from the federal government’s delayed financial reporting to the serious risks facing Canada’s economy.

Our researchers have also been active at the provincial level– covering health-care reform in Alberta, tax competitiveness in Ontario, and economic stagnation in British Columbia.

It’s important to note that these commentaries are more than just opinion pieces. They are rooted in real data and our peer-reviewed research. They inform the public, spark debate, and help regular people hold governments to account.

In other words, they have a real impact!

Last year alone, we placed over 7,000 of these commentaries – nearly 20 per day.

Our commentaries are read in print, circulated online, discussed on podcasts, and shared by Canadians of all political stripes. In an age of misinformation and ideological media, I think you’ll agree that this kind of content is essential.

In 2025, we also released 119 major studies that help inform these commentaries – tackling health care, taxes, housing, climate, and more.

And this year, we’re not slowing down. Here are just a few of our recent impactful studies:

Leaving Canada for Health Care – More than 100,000 Canadians left the country for treatment in 2025. The median wait for care in Canada is now 29 weeks – one of the longest ever recorded. Canada’s Shrinking Stock Market – Since 2010, the number of public companies in Canada is down 33%. That should concern anyone worried about economic growth. Tax the Rich? We Already Do! – Our tax system is already among the most progressive in the industrialized world. The top 20% of earners pay nearly 65% of all personal income taxes.

Because of your support, these studies reached millions of Canadians.

In 2025:

Our work generated over 30,000 media stories – more than 80 per day Our websites attracted over 4 million unique visitors Our social media content reached more than 66 million people

No other think tank or policy-oriented organization in Canada comes close to these numbers. And none of it would be possible without donors like you.

If you have already made your 2026 gift, thank you. If not, I hope you will consider making a donation today to help us build on this strong start [[link removed][campaignid]].

Thank you again for your commitment to better policy and a stronger Canada.

Sincerely,

Niels Veldhuis

President
