On Saturday, January 31, 2026, Emgage Michigan hosted a North Star Policy Initiative (NSPI) forum with U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (MD) in Ann Arbor for a timely conversation about national policy priorities.
Following opening remarks to the audience at the University of Michigan's Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, which included policy professionals, students, activists, and Michigan state officials, Senator Van Hollen engaged in a community fireside chat with Emgage Michigan Executive Director Jamie Churches and NSPI co-founder and senior advisor Adham Sahloul.
Covering pressing developments in U.S. foreign policy from the Western Hemisphere to the Middle East, and discussing the tragic events in Minnesota and ongoing ICE immigration raids, Senator Van Hollen shared his priorities in Congress and engaged with viewpoints from Michigan community members.
The North Star Policy Initiative, launched by Emgage Foundation in 2025, is a nonprofit, nonpartisan initiative dedicated to building bridges between policymakers and communities beyond the Beltway. NSPI has convened national policy conversations with state and national officials in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and the DC-Maryland-Virginia area, and has upcoming events planned in the Bay Area and Arizona.
Sincerely,
Adham Sahloul
