My colleague Amy Klobuchar recently announced her campaign for Governor of Minnesota.
In a minute, I am going to ask you to make a contribution to her campaign, but first I wanted to share a few words and thoughts about what has happened in her state over the past few weeks.
Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, what has happened in Minnesota runs against the fundamental freedoms of who we are as Americans.
This is what President Trump meant when he said he wanted to go after the "enemy within." Now, two American citizens have been killed by their own government as part of this operation -- one that is part of a larger continued, coordinated assault on our Constitutional rights with a specific focus on individuals and groups who disagree with this president.
This moment requires accountability and leadership.
Kristi Noem should do the responsible thing and resign. If she won't, President Trump should fire her. If he won't, she should be impeached.
Last week, I voted no on a bill that included more funding for ICE. My power is my vote, and there must be fundamental reforms to ICE before we give them even more taxpayer money. This Administration has lost the trust of the American people when it comes to deploying federal forces on our streets.
And we need to elect leaders who can help bring Minnesota together long after ICE and border patrol leave the state.
