Public Source is grateful to share that our NewsMatch 2025 campaign was a success.
With the support of 371 readers, along with matching funds from the Wyncote Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Knight Foundation and our local match pool donors, the campaign will bring in more than $173,550, exceeding our goal. It is the largest NewsMatch total we’ve raised and the highest number of donors we’ve seen in our end-of-year campaigns.
That generosity didn’t stop when NewsMatch ended on Dec. 31. In the weeks since, another 210 people have donated to support the sustainability of local journalism in the Pittsburgh region. Of those, 150 are first-time donors to Public Source. Thousands more have subscribed, followed, shared our work or reached out to say they’re relying on our local reporting more than ever.
This support comes at a moment of real change for local news here. As longstanding newsrooms close or plan to, people are actively seeking reporting that helps them understand what’s happening where they live and how it affects their lives. We’re honored that so many have turned to Public Source, and we don’t take that trust lightly.
Public Source is in its 15th year of publishing free, independent journalism for the Pittsburgh region. In 2025 alone, our newsroom published more than 400 stories on local government, economic development, health, the environment, education and other topics. None of that work is behind a paywall, but all of it requires time, care and resources. Reader support makes it possible.
If you gave during NewsMatch or afterward, thank you. If you’re new here, welcome. We’re already responding to what this shifting media landscape means for our neighbors and what comes next for our region.
