Winston Peters announced yesterday that New Zealand is suspending its extradition treaty with Hong Kong.

This is in light of China’s decision to pass a national security law for the former British protectorate.

This legislation undermines the 'one country, two systems' framework - part of China's commitment to the international community in 1997.

“New Zealand can no longer trust that Hong Kong’s criminal justice system is sufficiently independent from China," Mr Peters said.

Backing Tiwai Point

WATCH this video on Facebook

The fight to save Tiwai Point is the fight to save thousands of jobs in Southland.

It is also the finest quality aluminium production plant in the world.

Our leader Winston Peters spoke to a packed crowd in Invercargill last week to state our position on the future of the smelter.

We oppose any idea of closure.

The results of abandoning Tiwai Point will be dwarfed by the wider impact on employment across New Zealand.

Tackling meth harm in our regions

Shane Jones announced funding to tackle meth use, reduce harm, and support addicts.

The investment will deliver a support mechanism for addicts from recovery to work-ready status.
