We’ve had to do it right here in North Carolina — we spent years working to get Medicaid Expansion, and we finally got Republicans to the table and got it passed. It wasn’t easy. We’ve had to fight like hell for every step forward we’ve taken.

But I’m conscious of the fact that there is much more that needs to be done to protect the rights of Americans and provide a better path for the future when some politicians are set on dragging us back.

Extreme Republicans have banned abortion in states across the country, endangered our public education system, and rolled back critical legislation combating climate change. They even slashed funding for Medicaid and SNAP just to give tax breaks to the richest.

This is wrong, John, but I still believe that we can change things. I believe that every elected leader must do the hard work of creating safety, prosperity, and opportunity for all Americans, and that if we do, America can still be a place where dreams are fulfilled.
