I'm Nadine Smith, and I'm honored to serve as the new President of Color Of Change. I've spent my life organizing in hostile conditions, and I know what our opponents count on: people feeling afraid, alone, and overwhelmed.

Our strength is community, solidarity, and the choice to look out for one another. That's how we've always survived.

Their primary tool is disinformation. Ours is community: people showing up for one another with clear information and practical support. That's what Color Of Change is built to do—build coalitions, support local organizers, and scale what works into national impact.

Today we're launching the Solidarity Whistle: Know Your Rights Initiative.

This initiative is about choosing community over isolation and taking concrete action together. Everything centers on lawful, constitutionally protected activity and peaceful civic participation.

Why whistles?

Because they work. A whistle draws attention, interrupts harm, and brings people toward each other when someone is being harassed, followed, or threatened. It supports de-escalation by bringing witnesses into the open. It's simple, legal, and reliable—something you can carry every day as preparation and a promise to look out for each other.

Whistles only make sense in community. They exist because we believe someone will hear them and come to help. When we hear that sound, we respond.

Paired with Know Your Rights information, this effort supports the informed exercise of constitutionally protected rights: peaceful protest, observation, and documentation.

As I begin this chapter at Color Of Change, my focus is deepening our presence in community and serving as a trusted beacon in an era where disinformation and deepfake AI are weaponized against the truth.
