What’s the Hungry for Change Campaign?

This Ramadan, the Muslim Council of Britain is launching Hungry for Change - a nationwide campaign to mobilise British Muslims in grassroots civic action, strengthen our voice, and increase voter participation in the upcoming local elections to be held on 7th May 2026.

The rising threat of fragmented politics and hateful rhetoric against faith communities is a challenge we must unite against to ensure a fairer, more inclusive and safer country for everyone to live in. We are living in a time where hate is spreading like wildfire and fear about migrants and faith communities is at an all time high, with an unprecedented rise in attacks against religious communities and the politicisation of people’s freedoms and rights to speech.

Why should I get involved?

Ramadan is the time to take action for the benefit of every vulnerable individual in society. After all, the Qur’an commands us to take political action: “You are the best community ever raised for humanity - you encourage good, forbid evil, and believe in Allah. Had the People of the Book believed, it would have been better for them. Some of them are faithful, but most are rebellious.” (Surah Al-Imran, 3:110)

Ramadan is a month of reflection and a moment of empowerment and collective action for our community. Yet British Muslims face many hidden challenges and disadvantages that have been ignored for far too long. Did you know women seek greater support for domestic violence in Ramadan and public hate crimes ([link removed].) increase significantly during this holy month, eating disorders affect our teenagers even more in Ramadan, and half of Muslim households in the UK living in poverty are struggling to put iftar on their table due to the rising cost of living crisis?

What action steps can I take as part of the campaign? - Social Media

It’s time for us to get up, get politically engaged and empowered as a community to change this. Are you hungry for positive change?

You can make a difference by registering to vote and getting politically engaged - we can challenge the powers that make policies which keep our NHS system resourced, to transform the provision local councils provide to our youth and ensure vulnerable members of our communities are protected.
