Dear Georgian,
The United States Department of Agriculture has designated 42 counties across South Georgia as eligible for emergency loan assistance through the Farm Service Agency (FSA) for drought severity during this past growing season.
Georgia's 8th district counties included in the designation as primary and contiguous are: Atkinson, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brooks, Clinch, Coffee, Colquitt, Cook, Crisp, Echols, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes, Jeff Davis, Telfair, Tift, Turner, and Worth.
Farm operators are eligible for emergency loan assistance based on their application that considers the extent of farm loss and repayment ability. Additional information on USDA's disaster assistance program can be found here.
The Congressional Art Competition for 2026 is officially underway. All high school students (9-12th grade) who reside in or attend school in the Eighth Congressional District are encouraged to participate.
The winning entry will be displayed in the United States Capitol for a year alongside artwork from every congressional district across the country.
