Friend,
We need public health experts leading our response to COVID-19 – not politicians. But President Trump recently issued a directive that prohibits hospitals from providing COVID-19 data to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and instead creates a system controlled solely by Trump’s Secretary of Health & Human Services.
The CDC is the nation’s authority on infectious diseases. They must have control over COVID-19 data and local public health authorities must be able to access the data they need to respond to the pandemic in their communities. This reckless directive imperils public health and dangerously undermines transparency.
So I’m standing with 21 attorneys general to tell Donald Trump to withdraw this dangerous directive. We won’t let him put public health at further risk purely for his own political gain.
