Last year, a powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, resulting in thousands of deaths and thousands more injured. The quake caused widespread damage to infrastructure and buildings, with aftershocks complicating rescue efforts.

Thanks to independent funding from supporters like you, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) was able to rapidly assess our patients’ immediate needs and respond with vital emergency services at a moment’s notice.

Here’s how your support fueled MSF teams' response to the Myanmar earthquake:

We quickly set up latrines, hand-washing basins, water taps, water tanks, and soap dispensers to ensure people had access to clean water and sanitation, helping to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases. We distributed 2,070 kits of non-food items in Mandalay, with items ranging from lighters, blankets, tarps, mosquito nets, jerry cans, soaps, menstrual pads, hairbrushes, chlorine, and diapers. In Mandalay, we trained more than 200 volunteer doctors, nurses, and others on psychological first aid and provided care to survivors. We continue to provide mental health services to survivors, including activities for children who are
uniquely impacted by displacement and lack of normalcy.
