For nearly 60 years, property owners in Downtown, Brickell, and
Edgewater have carried a tax burden unique in Miami. Since 1967, the
Downtown Development Authority has called it the “price of
progress.” That’s a nice line, but the reality is a mess.

People living here are asking a simple question: Where the hell is our
money actually going? This isn’t some vague government grant. It’s
cash pulled right out of our pockets every year. Millions of it. Yet,
trying to figure out how it’s spent feels like trying to crack a
safe.

On Jan. 23, Miami Dolphins alumni, Troy Drayton, and cheerleaders,
joined staff from the organizations to surprise Alex Silva Jr. and his
family at his residence with the news of the new roof (valued at
$35,000). Nominated by the Wounded Warrior Project – a Miami
Dolphins Football UNITES™ partner – Silva, a disabled veteran from
Homestead, was able to select the color of the roofing before the team
began working on his roof replacement.
