John, about 90% of all U.S. wetlands could soon be without protection as the Trump administration is redefining “waters of the United States” under the Clean Water Act.
If this proposal moves forward, developers could more easily pave over millions of acres of land that filter drinking water, store carbon and nurture about half of all the threatened and endangered species in the United States.

If wetlands are destroyed, our communities will pay the price with more frequent flooding and increased water pollution, leading to higher water and home insurance bills.
The environment will pay a price too. Destroying these habitats will impact fish and wildlife and release large amounts of carbon back into the atmosphere. In the United States, wetlands are home to 75% of commercially harvested fish and shellfish.
We’re running out of time to protect wetlands and other critical ecosystems. But at EDF, our teams are using all the tools in our toolbox to fight back against ongoing attacks.
Please donate today to double your impact — for wetlands, wildlife, communities and the planet.
Thanks for protecting the people and places we love,
