Folks, when I think about my son Ben, I can’t help but think about the educators who guided him as he grew up.

Ben, who’s now 37, was born with cerebral palsy. It is in part because of a whole lot of dedicated educators — who were committed to helping him learn and thrive — that Ben is the wonderful person he is today.

I got my start in public service to advocate for kids like Ben — and that mission brought me all the way to the U.S. Senate. It’s my firm belief that all children should have the opportunity to learn — regardless of their circumstance — but Donald Trump’s attacks on the Department of Education put students with disabilities at risk of and prevent them from getting the support they need in school.

Trump’s funding cuts have resulted in staffing shortages, freezes on education grants focused on helping educators teach students with disabilities, and countless other disruptions. The Republican attempts to dismantle our public education system are absolutely heartbreaking — and that’s why I’m not standing idly by.

Being Ben's mom has given me a particular perspective on the continued work we need to do to improve opportunities for people with disabilities.

I have been a fierce voice for folks with disabilities since day one — and I’ll keep advocating for vulnerable communities in the U.S. Senate. Will you please pitch in anything you can — $25, $5, or even $1 — to power my work and elect even more disability champions to the Senate? [[link removed]]
