Remembrance is not just about the past; it is a responsibility in the present. We must continue to speak out against antisemitism wherever it appears and ensure that never again truly means never again." ANDREW IN THE NEWS Garbarino launches inquiry into $1B in COVID reimbursements that NY hospitals haven't received "Long Island GOP Rep. Andrew Garbarino has launched a congressional inquiry into more than $1 billion in federal COVID-19 disaster reimbursements that remain unpaid to health networks in New York State and billions of dollars more owed nationally for these emergency expenses. "Severely delinquent" is how Garbarino (R-Bayport) describes the tardy or slow Federal Emergency Management Agency payments under a Public Assistance Program tied to a disaster that ended in 2023. "In New York, it is my understanding that more than $1 billion went through every check and balance but is still pending obligation specifically for hospitals," Garbarino wrote in a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem." Read the full story WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Farmingdale State College Legislative Breakfast Andrew’s team attended the Farmingdale State College Legislative Breakfast this week, highlighting the college’s important role in the community. Farmingdale State College serves more than 3,000 students, employs over 400 faculty members, and is home to more than 27,000 alumni living across New York’s Second Congressional District. Andrew values his strong relationship with FSC leadership and remains a consistent supporter of higher education, workforce development, and opportunities for Long Island students. Bayport-Blue Point Parade Passing of the Sash Dinner This weekend, the Bayport-Blue Point community gathered for the annual Parade Passing of the Sash Dinner, a cherished local tradition. Andrew's team attended the event to represent the office and join the community in honoring this year’s recipient. This year’s honoree is a Bayport resident and 9/11 widow. In recognition of her strength and service, Andrew was proud to present her with a commemorative American flag and a Congressional Certificate of Recognition. Andrew remains deeply grateful to the families who continue to carry the legacy of September 11th, 2001. Winter Storm Safety & Preparedness Following the recent winter storm, Andrew encourages residents to take precautions and follow guidance from local officials as cold weather continues. Residents are urged to limit travel, when possible, dress in layers, and take steps to prevent fire and carbon monoxide hazards at home. If you are unable to keep your home warm, community warming centers may be available in your area. You can find some help by calling 211 or visiting your local emergency management website. Casework Highlight: Helping a Constituent Expedite a Passport When a Long Island resident became concerned that his passport renewal would not arrive in time for his upcoming travel this March, he reached out to Andrew’s office for assistance. Andrew’s team contacted the passport agency handling the application and worked to expedite the request. As a result, the constituent is expected to receive his passport within the next week, well ahead of his trip. Andrew and his team look forward to helping more Long Islanders get the assistance they need. Whether it’s the VA, Social Security, Medicare, the IRS, passports, or other federal services, the office is always ready to step in and help. Keeping Up with Congress Strengthening Oversight and Accountability In response to a request from Andrew, senior officials from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will appear before the House Homeland Security Committee on February 10. The hearing will provide Andrew and members of the Committee with the opportunity to hear directly from agency leadership and ask questions about their operations and responsibilities as part of the Department of Homeland Security’s mission. As Chairman of the Committee, Andrew remains committed to transparency, accountability, and ensuring federal agencies are carrying out their duties effectively and responsibly. Recognizing National Catholic Schools Week. National Catholic Schools Week runs from January 26th through February 1st. The week recognizes the lasting contributions Catholic schools make to education, faith, and community life. Andrew was proud to serve as an original cosponsor of a bipartisan resolution recognizing National Catholic Schools Week and honoring the role Catholic schools play in educating students and strengthening communities. Catholic schools across Long Island have a long tradition of academic excellence and service. Andrew remains grateful to the educators, families, and students who help carry that tradition forward.
