The Senate has passed funding bills related to human needs programs, while separating the funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security, which includes funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Now the legislation goes back to the House, where the fight over funding DHS/ICE/CBP will continue.

We are in a defining moment. Thanks to the bravery of the people of Minnesota, the local media, and the support of organizations demanding justice after the murders of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, the public is not just outraged, but mobilized, demanding lawmakers act now.

Our demands are clear: ICE and CBP agents should be withdrawn from our communities. Any DHS funding bill passed must require full Congressional investigations, stop ICE and CBP enforcement at sensitive locations, prohibit warrantless arrests and other lawless enforcement operations, stop the use of force, end family and child detention, and provide no new contracts for private detention.

Anything less simply does not meet the moment and would only bring more terror to our communities.

Congress must stop giving ICE and DHS handouts and assert its power of the purse. The money proposed for Fiscal Year 2026 is not insignificant: $10 billion for ICE on top of the tens of billions of dollars they got last summer and another $18 billion for CBP on top of the $64 billion they already received. Further, the amounts provided in a Fiscal Year 2026 bill will be the baseline for negotiations in years to come.

The rights of the most vulnerable in our society are being trampled and violated. But as we’re seeing on the streets of Minneapolis and across the nation, no one is safe. Under this administration, we have seen ICE and other immigration officers engage in xenophobia, racially profile people, and, in the cases of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, murder them in the streets in public view.

No amount of training can fix this. Congress must stop funding ICE’s violent attacks on our communities and stop their relentless efforts to build more detention centers.

Call on your Representative to reject any legislation that increases DHS/ICE/CBP funding.
