John,

This first month of the year has been deeply difficult for so many in our communities -- from increased healthcare premiums and constant rising costs, to chaos caused by ICE and the Trump Administration.

It’s a reminder of what is on the line in November’s midterm election: Accountability, affordability, and a democracy that works for us all.

So right now, I need to pull back the curtain on the stakes in this race and what we’re up against. I hope you’ll read my message in its entirety, but if you’re short on time, a $3 donation before our end-of-month deadline would go a long way.

The landscape in my race in California’s 49th Congressional District has changed dramatically in the past few months.

Back in November, California voters passed Proposition 50 -- changing district lines and leveling the playing field against extreme Republican gerrymandering.

While it made many races less competitive, the same can’t be said for mine. We’re facing a high-raising GOP challenger, and political experts still rank CA-49 as one of the most competitive races nationwide.

Something that hasn’t changed is my commitment to work for the people I was elected to represent -- not corporate PACs or special interests . I don’t take a dime of their money.

While I know it’s the right thing to do, it makes fundraising a lot more difficult -- especially when we’re racing to meet the over 177,000 voters who were folded into this district.

$3 or any amount you can give before tonight’s deadline would immediately fund the voter outreach efforts we need to hold the line in CA-49. The House majority is within reach, but we can’t give the GOP an inch.
