Friend,
Last week, we sent a survey to find out about your experiences during the COVID crisis and what you and your families need most from your representatives in Congress to get through these difficult times. Your responses were thoughtful, pained, and moving – and Doug heard you.
Yesterday, Mitch McConnell released a version of the next relief bill that completely overlooks the issues that you and people like you told us would go the farthest to help. McConnell’s bill supports big business at the expense of people like us.
We’re asking you to add your name to tell Mitch that the next COVID relief bill should be written for the people, not for politics and partisan games.
Here are a few of the major problems with McConnell’s bill:
- We heard from many of you that the supplemental unemployment benefits offered in the CARES Act were the only thing keeping food on families’ tables after so many people were unexpectedly furloughed or laid off – McConnell’s bill would force those 51 million Americans to survive on just $200 a week through some of the toughest months of this crisis.
- After large corporations took tens of millions of dollars from the Payroll Protection Program meant to support our small and local businesses, the new bill offers corporations immunity from lawsuits related to the abuse of business loans and mistreatment of their employees and customers.
- Hazard-premium pay for frontline workers was one of the biggest priorities in our survey results, but McConnell’s bill makes no consideration for the sacrifices made by the heroes working on our frontlines, working countless hours and risking their lives and their families’ lives with no additional compensation.
This bill was written behind closed doors with no bipartisan negotiation and no input from the people most affected by this crisis – those whose loved ones have died on the frontlines, or those among the 51 million still unemployed – and the results are clear.
Doug’s taking on McConnell, but he can’t do it alone – add your voice to his and together we’ll send a message that Mitch can’t ignore >>
–Team Doug
