Over the summer, Attorney General Ken Paxton sued Powered by People and asked a judge to jail Beto because we fought for our democracy when Greg Abbott and Donald Trump unleashed their gerrymandering scheme.
When all those attacks happened, we didn’t back down for a second. We rallied, we organized, we took Paxton to court, and we won. An all Abbott-appointed appeals court ruled in our favor.
But the months-long fight cost us more than $400,000 in legal fees. That’s why Paxton went after us to begin with. He knew we hadn’t done anything wrong. He sued us so we would have to spend resources fighting him in court instead of pouring it into registering and turning out voters.
While he made us use our financial resources, he couldn’t take our most important resource: the grassroots power of the people.
We are more committed than ever to organizing throughout Texas, registering voters, turning them out, and winning elections up and down the ballot. That’s why we’re asking you to help us make up the difference from this costly lawsuit.
