As ICE agents terrorize our communities, murdering people in broad daylight and in ICE custody, everyday people across the country are speaking out.

In Arizona, State Senator Analise Ortiz shared an Instagram post warning residents about ICE’s presence near a local elementary school. Immediately after Sen. Ortiz shared this post on social media, Arizona Republicans called for her to be expelled from the Senate.

They referred the Instagram post both to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Arizona Senate Ethics Committee, demanding investigations and trying to claim that she “obstructed justice.”

Her Republican colleagues are continuing to target her. They just announced a bill to make it a felony to “interfere with ICE”—and they referred to her resharing a post as an example of the behavior they want to criminalize.

From state legislatures to Congress to each of our communities, we must hold ICE accountable and protect our constitutional rights, including the right to free speech.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has stood firmly by Sen. Ortiz’s actions, stating that the Senator was clearly within her rights and stopping a county-level attorney from investigating Sen. Ortiz.

We will not stay on the sidelines as these lawless immigration agencies terrorize our communities, making us unsafe in our own neighborhoods. Across the country, we’re seeing unrelenting acts of defiance against this administration.
