I want to take stock of what we’re up against this year.

We are in the middle of a full-fledged national redistricting crisis. It’s an emergency that’s been manufactured by an out-of-control administration. Donald Trump and his anti-democracy allies in states across the country are manipulating their congressional maps in an attempt to cling to power in the midterm elections.

They want you to think they are unstoppable, but their desperation is obvious. This will be far from easy, but it's a winnable fight.

We can even see cracks emerging in the facade. Just look at Indiana, where voters spoke out and inspired lawmakers of both parties to reject a new gerrymander — doing so in the face of threats of violence and reportedly even threats from the White House to withhold federal funding for the state.

I wish that were the end of it. But we have reason to believe this redistricting crisis is about to get a whole lot worse. In Florida, Ron DeSantis has vowed to move forward with another extreme gerrymander attempt.

At this very moment, several other states are also actively considering mid-decade redraws of their maps — some pointing to a forthcoming Supreme Court ruling on the Voting Rights Act as their anticipated justification.

The task ahead of us is daunting. We must be prepared for all of it. There is no one coming to make the other side play fair — no cavalry coming to ensure that the will of the people will prevail on its own.

I’ve said it before, and it bears repeating: You and I, we are the cavalry our democracy depends on.

If you can, make a donation today to ensure that we can continue to fight back against power grabs across the country and uphold our democracy at this consequential moment in its history: [[link removed]]

Together, we can prevail. Thank you,

Eric H. Holder, Jr.
