Last week the House passed along party lines a partisan, $259.5 billion “
minibus” set of appropriations that were anti-life, anti-family, anti-woman, and anti-work. Now the House finishes up the appropriations package with a vote on the second “minibus,”
H.R. 7617 which is composed of funding for Defense, Commerce, Justice, Science, Energy and Water Development, Financial Services and General Government, Homeland Security, Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development.
Â
Like its predecessor, the House minibus #2 is problematic. First, it will cost hard-working American taxpayers about $1.367 trillion. In combination with last week’s appropriations package and this week’s passage of two
child care bills, the lower Chamber has spent upwards of $2 trillion dollars with little to no talk of the unintended consequences of adding to the
nation’s debt.

Â
Second, the second minibus also prioritizes leftist “woke” culture. The legislation is anti-Trump, anti-police, and anti-family. Specifically, the
bill:
- Prohibits funds from being used for President Trump’s border wall and the hiring of new border officers.
- Provides $1 million to the Army for the renaming of entities that bear the names of confederate leaders and officers.
- Appropriates $33.2 billion (an increase of $972.5 million) to the Department of Justice for the purpose of instituting “police reform and racial justice” initiatives and forces state and local governments to eliminate practices like racial profiling and implicit bias, excessive force and chokeholds, and “no-knock” warrants in order to receive certain funds.
- Gives $525 million for the Violence Against Women Act.
- Allows funds in D.C. to be used for abortion services and to legalize marijuana.Â
- Reverses the Administration’s rulemaking against Title X Family Planning essentially opening the door for Planned Parenthood to receive more federal dollars.
- Creates new language endangering our nation’s children in foster care by prohibiting funds to foster care organizations that do not comply with nondiscrimination regulations related to age, disability, sex, race, color, national origin, religion, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
While this is a lengthy list, it doesn’t even come close to showing all the harmful aspects of the legislation. For these reasons, Eagle Forum is hopeful that House Republicans will again overwhelmingly vote NO on the minibus. Please join us in asking your Representative to be better stewards of YOUR taxpayer money and
vote NO on H.R. 7617.
