[ [link removed] ]John Lewis: Your vote is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have to create
a more perfect union.

PFAW Member,

Today Congressman John Lewis, a true American hero and giant of the civil
rights movement, lies in state at the U.S. Capitol, allowing his
colleagues and the public to pay their respects one final time.

While the nation mourns, Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans have
wasted no time in hollowing out their condolences from mere days earlier –
releasing a COVID response bill that would offer NO funding to help ensure
that we can vote safely and securely this year.

If Senate Republicans truly want to honor the legacy of John Lewis and
help finish the work he started, they can begin with restoring the Voting
Rights Act by passing the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act!

[ [link removed] ]Sign the petition now demanding that the Senate act immediately to
honor John Lewis’s legacy and pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act! >>

The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act would restore and strengthen the
Voting Rights Act of 1965, including the provisions that were gutted by
the Roberts Court in its disastrous 2013 Shelby County ruling.

Since that ruling, and especially in recent months, Republicans around the
country have made it increasingly difficult to vote: by restricting voting
hours, purging countless eligible voters from the rolls, closing polling
locations, and more recently opposing ANY attempt to expand voting by mail
to allow more people to vote safely and securely from home amidst the
pandemic.

Through their inaction and outright refusal to address the critical
democracy needs of our nation, Mitch McConnell and his Republican
colleagues prove their sympathy is meaningless while they actively
undermine one of our most fundamental rights.

We must continue putting pressure on Senate Republicans to pass the John
R. Lewis Voting Rights Act. The bill has already passed the House and is
sitting on McConnell’s desk. Demand that they hold a vote on the bill
immediately!

Senate Republicans honor the legacy of John Lewis and pass this vital bill
now! >>

Thanks for all you do – and remember to keep making “good trouble,
necessary trouble.”

– Zach, PFAW
