Listen, John.
When I said women of color are here to stay — I meant it.
As the highest-ranking Woman of Color in Congressional Leadership, I’m used to experiencing sexism and racism in the old boys’ club of politics. For too long, women of color have been pushed to the side and excluded from Congress.
That’s why it’s so important for women to stand up for each other when a colleague tries to silence one of us. When we come together to challenge institutional sexism, we are unstoppable.
In 2018, we elected a record number of women of color to Congress and broke barriers. Not only did it give me hope, it meant that countless young girls saw themselves represented in the halls of Congress for the very first time.
This is why I am fighting every day to make Congress a more diverse, inclusive space for women of color.
If you’re with me, one of the most important things you can do is to help us meet our end-of-month deadline so we can elect more women of color up and down the ballot.
