Friends,

I hope everyone stayed warm this past week. Last night, I had the chance to attend the Greater East Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce elected officials reception, where I heard directly from local leaders and job creators who care deeply about the future of our community.

Many of you have also been watching the chaos unfold in Minneapolis after federal immigration enforcement operations there resulted in the death of a man and sparked intense protests and scrutiny from local officials. I am disappointed that a human life was lost in these circumstances, but I believe the Minnesota elected leaders have a responsibility to tone down the rhetoric instead of riling up the American people for political effect. At the same time, these events reinforce why cooperation between local, state, and federal law enforcement matters. Authorities at every level must work together with ICE so dangerous situations do not escalate and officers can do their jobs safely. I stand firmly with the men and women in law enforcement who put themselves on the line every day to keep our communities secure.

Sincerely,

GEMCC Elected Officials Reception

Image

Last night, I spent time in New Caney at the Greater East Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Annual Elected Officials Reception. East Montgomery County is growing fast, and it was good to be with the local leaders and job creators who are driving that growth and keeping this community strong. I gave a quick update on what we’ve been working on in Congress, from tax relief for working families to cutting red tape so energy and infrastructure projects can actually get built. Just as important, I listened to what matters most to the people who live and work here. Staying connected at home keeps our priorities in Washington straight.

Oversight and Investigations Hearing on Fraud

Next week, the Energy and Commerce Committee will hold an Oversight and Investigations hearing focused on Medicare and Medicaid fraud happening across the country. These schemes waste taxpayer dollars, harm vulnerable patients, and too often involve sophisticated criminal networks that know how to game the system. We owe it to seniors and families who rely on these programs to root out fraud wherever it exists and make sure taxpayer dollars are spent on care, not corruption. This hearing is about accountability, protecting beneficiaries, and strengthening these programs so they are there for the people who truly need them.
