Yesterday, I announced that I am calling for the dismantling of ICE in its current form.

ICE can no longer function in its current form. It is clear that the organization has been co-opted by Trump into a secret police bent on frightening, intimidating, and harming Americans. They have indiscriminately targeted immigrants and U.S. citizens alike — including children — violently attacked protestors and bystanders, racially profiled Latino Americans, and now brutally killed multiple U.S. citizens. The leadership of ICE and CBP also continue to lie directly to the American people.

We must dismantle Trump’s ICE from the top down and in its place build an organization re-committed to the original mission of immigration enforcement in our country: the welcoming and screening of new immigrants, the deterrence of illegal entry, the removal of actual security threats, and the adjudication of permanent residency and naturalization.

I refuse to stand idly by while Trump continues his reign of terror.

This week, I also met with Chicago Women in Trades — a nonprofit that supports female laborers like welders, carpenters, and insulators. Women only make up 4.3% of America's construction workforce.

We also talked about how protections against sexual harassment have been rolled back under the Trump administration, and how we can fight to get them reinstated. I also learned that CWIT offers training and resources for women entering the trades — and how that supports U.S. manufacturing at large.
