John, It's no exaggeration to say that what happens between today and the midterm elections — nine months and four days, to be exact — will have a lasting impact on the future of representative democracy in America. In fact, what happens in just the next nine weeks will set the stage for the midterms as the redistricting crisis reaches new heights. Generations of progress on issues ranging from climate change to reproductive rights could be gutted. The voting power of the people — particularly in communities of color — could be silenced. In the year since Donald Trump took office, the White House and its state-level allies have made it clear that they will stop at nothing to tilt the playing field to benefit Republicans. That’s not how it’s supposed to work in America. It's on those of us who love our democracy enough to fight for it to step up right here, right now.
This particular end-of-month fundraising goal is crucial because so much is at stake — not just in November, but right now. Gov. Ron DeSantis is calling a special legislative session to force a new map on the people of Florida — which already has one of the most gerrymandered congressional maps in the country. GOP officials in Missouri have been working overtime to undermine a ballot initiative that would prevent them from using a new gerrymandered map. And we’re on high alert for an upcoming Supreme Court ruling that could undo a half-century of voting rights progress. Thanks for being a part of this movement, Brianna Shamsuddoha
