Congresswoman Van Duyne's Weekly Update

Irving, TX – While we are still recovering from this week's winter storm, I simply want to take a moment to recognize how much better our grid, energy production, and electric reliability held up this year in comparison to Winter Storm Uri of 2021. Following dedicated reforms at the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT - now headed by my good friend and former Central Texas Congressman, Bill Flores), and winterization mandates for the grid and energy production, Texans were never in danger of losing power during this major winter storm. Way to go ERCOT and Texas energy producers!!

"Go tankless," they said. "Tankless water heaters don't leak," they said. Until they do.

Like many others, we didn't make it through this week completely unscathed. Thanks to the "won't leak" tankless water heater, repairs are now under way. Regardless, I'll take this repair over two weeks of no, or intermittent, electricity and busted pipes any day.

2026 tax filing is now open, kicking off the largest tax return season in American history.

Last year, Republicans delivered the largest tax cut in our nation’s history thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts – starting this week, Americans will begin receiving the largest refund checks in their lifetimes.

Inflation continues a downward trend as reforms by the Trump Administration and Republicans in Congress to lower costs, slash regulations, and ensure the private sector is empowered have helped deliver outstanding market productivity!

As the RSC Budget and Spending Taskforce Chair, I recently introduced the RSC Budget, which is a comprehensive fiscal roadmap where I prioritized a return to pre-pandemic spending levels and a balanced federal budget as soon as possible. We were able to show how common sense budget cuts, combined with pro-growth policies, we could eliminate deficits and make the federal government live within its means. Federal debt and deficits must be tackled to truly help set the stage for outstanding long term fiscal sanity.

This week the SBA suspended 1,091 firms from the 8(a) Program, nearly a quarter of total program participants – after they refused to turn over basic financial documentation for our review.

I am glad we finally have an administration cracking down on the fraud that occurred under the Biden Administration and taking action to reverse course. President Trump and his administration have been critical in helping to ensure that our American small businesses continue to thrive.

As a member of the Small Business Committee and Chair of the Small Business Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access, I have passed two bills out of the House to slash burdensome regulations for our small businesses and crack down who can access funds from the Small Businesses Administration (SBA).

The American Entrepreneurs First Act of 2025 ensures that SBA funds are only accessible to American citizens, not to individuals or businesses with foreign or undocumented ownership. The Small Business Regulatory Reduction Act of 2025 prohibits the SBA from taking any regulatory action that would increase compliance costs for small businesses.

Texas-24 Work of the Week

By cutting red tape, we can help more lifesaving organs reach patients in need. This week I was encouraged to see CMS adopt reforms that follow the approach we laid out in the Removing Burdens From Organ Donation Act.

Texas-24 Hometown Hero

This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Heroes are Moffitt Services out of Fort Worth, who worked around the clock during the winter storm to help our North Texas community.
