Less than three weeks earlier, they killed Renee Good in the same city. Both were protesters. Both were exercising their First Amendment rights. And now we know something else that should alarm every American. In the aftermath of Alex Pretti’s killing, Attorney General Pam Bondi offered Minnesota a deal: Hand over your voter records, and the Trump administration will stop the ICE invasion.     That tells you everything you need to know. The violence in Minneapolis was never about immigration. It is about rigging elections. Before Alex Pretti was killed, Trump and MAGA’s poll numbers were collapsing. They know they are headed toward massive losses in 2026 and 2028, losses that could sideline them for a generation. Unless they can rig elections. For months, Trump has been demanding access to state voter records. He has been threatening governors and state officials to get them. MAGA learned from 2020 that if you want to steal an election, you don’t wait until Election Day, you control the process before the votes are cast. That’s also why the FBI just raided Fulton County, Georgia election offices and seized their 2020 ballots and vote tabulations, opening the door for Trump to resurface claims about stolen elections and create pretense for even more extreme actions to rig elections.     But here’s the truth Trump’s desperate to bury: Elections are state matters. They are not run by the federal government. That is why they are trying to strong-arm states. And that is where we can stop them. With strong, independent, pro-democracy state Supreme Courts, the courts that ultimately decide election cases, we can block these abuses, protect voter privacy, and ensure that Americans, not fascists, decide our elections.
