Friend,

Last year, DC lawmakers stopped a giveaway to the wealthy in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), saving the District nearly $700 million in local revenue and investing it instead in programs projected to cut child poverty by 20 percent. Now Congress is trying to override that local decision. Learn more here.

This Wednesday, February 4, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will vote on a resolution to block DC’s law. This is a direct attack on DC residents’ right to self-govern. Take action now: call Senator Gary Peters (the most powerful Democrat on the committee) and urge him to vote NO on the disapproval resolution and stop Congress from interfering in DC’s local laws.

CALL: Senator Gary Peters (D-MI), 202-224-6221

SAY: "Hi, my name is ___ and I am a DC resident.

Please vote no on the disapproval resolution to undo DC’s local legislation to decouple from costly tax cuts in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This resolution would drain the local budget of nearly $700 million and is an attack on DC residents’ fundamental right to self-govern as Americans. The more than 700,000 residents of DC deserve control over our own tax dollars and the ability to govern ourselves. Please vote no on S.J. Res.102."

And this isn’t the only place we need to apply pressure. While Congress attacks DC’s right to govern itself, major corporations are quietly enabling the same authoritarian agenda on the ground.

Picket Every Target
Saturday, January 31 @ 11 AM

Target was one of the first companies to roll back its DEI commitments and has stayed silent as ICE terrorizes communities in its home town of Minneapolis. Tomorrow, activists across the country are escalating pressure.

This Saturday will mark the one-year anniversary of the nationwide Black-led boycott effort. Join Free DC and Boycott Target as they picket every Target location this Saturday. Sign up to join the picket line at the Target location closest to you.

Thank you for taking action.

In solidarity,
