Email from Rep. Nehls Rep. Troy E. Nehls Announces 2026 Congressional Art Competition Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap of what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. My House Republican colleagues and I voted to pass the Working Families Tax Cut, which was signed into law by President Donald Trump last summer and delivered a major tax relief for American families. This legislation stopped what would have been the largest tax increase in American history and instead put more money back into the pockets of hardworking Americans. The Working Families Tax Cut saves the average American family $1,700 in taxes and boosts take-home pay for families with two children. 40 million families now receive a $2,500 Child Tax Credit per child, while working families' earnings between $15,000 and $30,000 see their taxes cut by 21 percent. Seniors receive historic tax relief, parents gain expanded school choice options and expanded 529 education savings accounts, and illegal aliens are prevented from accessing premium tax credits. Our workers are seeing direct benefits, including no federal taxes on tips for 4 million tipped employees and no taxes on overtime for 80 million hourly workers. Wages are projected to rise by $7,200 per worker and secure 7.2 million American jobs while repealing the Democrat IRS reporting requirements on gig economy transactions, such as Venmo and PayPal, for transactions over $600. The Working Families Tax Cuts created Trump Accounts, which jumpstart the American Dream for the next generation of Americans. This policy ensures every child will have a significant, tax-advantaged nest egg ready at age 18 to pay for higher education, start a business, or finance a first home. Children under the age of 18 in 2026 are eligible for a Trump Account. Children born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028 will have $1,000 deposited into their Trump Account by the federal government. Learn more about Trump Accounts HERE. I was proud to vote for this historic legislation, which is delivering real relief to working families and ensures that Americans can keep more of their hard-earned money. I will continue to fight for Texas' 22nd Congressional District to protect your paycheck, strengthen jobs, and put YOU first. This Week in Washington D.C. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Op-Ed: Congress has the chance to help save the US shrimping industry This week, I penned an op-ed in The Hill, calling on Congress to pass my legislation, the Save Our Shrimpers Act, which would prohibit federal funds from being made available to International Financial Institutions (IFIs) to finance any activity relating to shrimp farming, shrimp processing, or the export of shrimp from any foreign country to the United States. Additionally, my legislation would trigger an investigation within the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) and require annual reports to Congress to what extent U.S. Executive Directors at IFIs comply with USC 262(h). In the op-ed, I discuss how, through the use of American tax dollars, the American shrimping industry has fallen behind foreign shrimp production, and how, for the first time in history, the United States Treasury Department voted against funding a shrimp aquaculture project at an IFI. I highlight the need for Congress to permanently stop American tax dollars from subsidizing foreign shrimp farming and operations by passing his legislation, the Save Our Shrimpers Act. Read my op-ed HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls, Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee, Joins Captain Steeeve for a Discussion on U.S. Air Safety Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Captain Steeeve and discuss what the House Aviation Subcommittee, which I am Chairman of, and Congress as a whole have been doing to ensure that the DCA mid-air collision never happens again. Nehls' Fulshear District Office Hosts Service Academy Day I'm hosting a Service Academy Day on Saturday, May 9, 2026. This event will allow all TX-22 to learn how to attend one of the United States Service Academies. One of the privileges of serving in the United States House of Representatives is the opportunity to nominate outstanding young people from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas to be considered for appointment to our nation’s service academies. Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must apply and meet the minimum standards set by the individual academy. Second, the candidate must complete the congressional application to be considered for an interview with the nomination review board in our office. Please note that the ultimate selection of appointee’s rests solely with academy officials and is based on their competitive evaluation of all nominees. In addition to staff from my office, representatives from all five academies (U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and U.S. Coast Guard Academy) and current academy cadets and midshipmen will be on hand to answer questions. Students, parents, and educators will be able to hear from and meet with representatives on a one-on-one basis to be informed about the excellent opportunities associated with attending these premier educational institutions and the careers they generate. This forum is free; however, pre-registration is required and can be found on my website HERE. It will be held from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the Rosenberg Civic Center. We encourage students, parents, and educators to attend and take advantage of this valuable opportunity to learn more about these premier institutions and the careers they offer.
