This Week in ICE Being Cartoonishly Evil
In a sentence that feels legit straight out of hell: Cecil Elvir-Quinonez, a pregnant Florida woman, has been separated from her two children by immigration enforcement, and hasn’t even been given proper prenatal care while awaiting deportation [[link removed]] . Separated from her family for over three weeks, including her still-breastfeeding 5-month-old, Cecil found out she was pregnant while in government custody. Elvir-Quinonez has only been given prenatal vitamins, had only one ER visit despite heavy bleeding and cramps, and no way to pump breastmilk. Cecil’s crime that warranted ripping a mother away from her two children? SPEEDING, and a few traffic violations. Ya know, the same “crimes” the majority of Americans have under their belts. In our current hellscape, this is what justifies arresting a woman in front of her children while they yell out, “Don’t take my mommy!”
In case we haven’t said it enough: FUCK ICE.
MASA: Making America Sicker Again
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has officially reinstated a ban on research that uses human fetal tissue obtained from abortions. [[link removed]] The ban, put into place during Trump’s first term and then reversed by Biden, affects 17 current projects that weren’t renewed in September researching things like cancer, HIV, and other diseases. Real talk: fetal cells have been an important piece of biomedical research and disciplines since the 30’s, and helped advance treatments for diseases like cancer, Parkinson’s, and diabetes (among many others). Oh, and vaccines? We can thank fetal cells for protecting us against polio, measles, mumps, rabies, hepatitis A, and more!

Of course, the ACTUAL experts warn that “denying NIH-funded researchers access… will likely delay discoveries and delivery of therapeutics to patients in need.” So while this administration, and the Supreme Weiner of the Department of Health and Human Services, Robert FU Kennedy, bleats about making America healthier and protecting life, they’re actually and actively trying to make us sicker? WHAT A SURPRISE. Hold on to your outrage—we’ll be breaking this down even more this week on FBK!
