John,
Your activism has temporarily stopped the new DHS and ICE funding bill amidst ongoing ICE and Border Patrol violence in Minneapolis and across the country.
Today, the Senate is expected to pass the broader government funding bill, having separated out DHS funding to be negotiated over the next two weeks with the White House after a majority of Senators voted against the larger funding package yesterday. The House is moving to pass the new legislative package early next week after a brief partial government shutdown.1
Our demands remain the same: Congress must reject any increase in DHS funding―including for ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP)―and instead roll back the tens of billions of dollars handed to ICE in last year’s Big Brutal Bill.
Not another dollar for lawless, violent attacks on our communities.
With policymakers making important decisions in the coming days about measures to rein in federal agents attacking our communities, we’re organizing right now to keep the pressure on. Will you rush a donation to power our campaign to hold ICE accountable and demand Congress listen to the American people?
DONATE
Any DHS and ICE funding bill must stop the violence and abuse. Measures that merely manage or legitimize harm―such as body-worn cameras, training requirements, quotas, or cosmetic reforms―are not what we need to meet this moment.
We’re demanding Congress conduct a full investigation into enforcement practices, use of force, and civil rights violations.
We’re demanding Congress drastically reduce ICE and Border Patrol funding and reclaim the money allocated in last year’s Big Brutal Bill.
We’re demanding ICE and CBP stop enforcement at sensitive locations, including hospitals, schools, houses of worship, and community service sites.
We’re demanding an end to family and child detention and that Congress prohibit any new contracts with private detention companies.
We’re demanding ICE and CBP stop racially profiling people and end discriminatory targeting.
We’re demanding an end to warrantless arrests.
And we’re demanding justice and accountability of federal officers involved in these violent and deadly operations.
Together, we’re holding ICE and this lawless administration accountable. Rush a contribution today.
