Email from Rep. Malliotakis Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during this past month across Washington DC, Staten Island, and Southern Brooklyn... Dear Neighbor, Tax filing season has officially kicked off and millions of working Americans, middle-class families, and senior citizens will benefit from the historic tax cuts passed by Congress. As your voice in Washington, I will always fight for you and our office will always be available whenever you need assistance with any federal agency — whether it’s helping you receive the benefits you’re owed, cutting through red tape, or resolving delays that impact you and your family. Read more below for some of the highlights from the past month and please check out my recent op-ed in the Staten Island Advance. Sincerely, Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) JANUARY HIGHLIGHTS DELIVERING TAX RELIEF FOR WORKING AMERICANS, MIDDLE-CLASS FAMILIES & SENIORS As tax season begins, I want to remind working Americans, middle-class families, and senior citizens that they have more tax deductions and credits to take advantage of when they file their returns to keep more money in their pockets instead of Uncle Sam’s. The State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction has been quadrupled to $40,000 for families earning less than $500,000, covering 98% of households in our district and allowing them to deduct local income and property taxes. The Child Tax Credit has increased, and Americans will be able to open a $1,000 savings account for their baby. A new tax deduction for senior citizens with income up to $75,000, and for married couples earning up to $150,000, will result in 51 million seniors—an estimated 88%—having the taxes they paid on their Social Security benefits in 2025 refunded to them. Working Americans will also benefit from a larger standard deduction and no taxes on most tips and overtime. LEARN MORE WAYS & MEANS COMMITTEE EXPOSES BILLIONS IN FRAUD; STATES & CRIMINALS NOW FACING ACCOUNTABILITY The Ways & Means Committee has exposed tens of billions of dollars in fraud across various federal programs intended for our most needy citizens. President Trump, the Department of Justice, and House Republicans are holding states allowing it to happen accountable and prosecuting the criminals that perpetrate it. READ MORE HONORING FDNY FIREFIGHTER CARL BINI'S LEGACY I joined our new NYC Council Minority Leader David Carr and former Minority Leader Joe Borelli at the Carl Bini Memorial Fund’s gala. Through this foundation, the memory and selflessness of FDNY Firefighter Bini, who was killed on 9/11, lives on. FULLY FUNDING THE WORLD TRADE CENTER HEALTH PROGRAM I am proud to stand with my New York colleagues as we secured full funding for the World Trade Center Health Program, guaranteeing continued support for 9/11 responders and survivors, and it is expected to pass within the next week. 25 years after this horrific terrorist attack, we are still losing first responders to 9/11 related illnesses on a regular basis. We will always stand up for these heroes and survivors to ensure they have access to the care they need and deserve. READ MORE HONORING U.S. ARMY STAFF SERGEANT MICHAEL OLLIS Staten Island native U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Michael Ollis, who gave his life in Afghanistan in 2013 to save a Polish Allied soldier, is deserving of the Medal of Honor and we are pleased to see a recommendation from the Secretary of the Army. We have weighed in on this matter with President Trump and the White House and, after years of advocacy from our community and local elected officials, we are hopeful that this will very soon become a reality! STANDING UP TO PROTECT WOMEN'S SPORTS I joined Majority Whip Tom Emmer and student athletes from across the country at the Capitol to stand up for women’s sports. As the Supreme Court weighs state bans on biological boys participating in female sports, we stand with these girls who deserve a fair and level playing field! KICKING OFF 2026 PRESIDENTS' DAY ESSAY CONTEST I am happy to kick off this year’s Presidents’ Day Essay Contest, an opportunity for local elementary school students to engage in civics and share their ideas. The contest is open to students in grades 3-5 who reside or attend school in New York's 11th Congressional District. Submission deadline is Friday, February 27, 2026. For full contest details, use the link below. LEARN MORE SUPPORTING PUBLIC SAFETY AND PROTECTING CHILDREN On National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, I was proud to have secured nearly $1 million to support New York law enforcement and improve public safety, helping protect the officers of both the NYPD and the Department of Correction. We are also proud to have helped secure more than $760,000 for the New York State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force to strengthen efforts to combat online child exploitation! READ MORE HOLDING PHARMACY BENEFIT MANAGERS (PBMs) ACCOUNTABLE This month the House took bipartisan action to responsibly fund the remaining agencies of the federal government and crack down on the exploitative pricing tactics of pharmacy benefit managers—taking a major step toward real reform of a system that has driven prescription drug prices to record levels. PBMs' exploitative practices have left patients with skyrocketing prescription drug costs and have driven many independently owned ‘Mom & Pop’ pharmacies out of business throughout the country. Congress has taken the necessary action to ensure these predatory practices through insurance companies are finally reined in so we can continue our work to drive down costs for patients. READ MORE A JOYFUL PONGAL CELEBRATION WITH STATEN ISLAND’S TAMIL COMMUNITY I enjoyed celebrating Pongal with the Tamil community of Staten Island and thank the students and their teachers for the beautiful dance and cultural presentation! IN CASE YOU MISSED IT Op-Ed: One year in: America is winning again — and we’re just getting started One year ago, President Donald Trump was sworn in with a Republican trifecta. In our first 12 months, President Trump & House Republicans delivered on multiple promises, including border security, lower gas prices, economic growth and historic tax cuts. Read my latest op-ed in the Staten Island Advance to learn more about what we have accomplished. READ HERE FOX 5: The Noon Rep. Malliotakis joins FOX 5 to discuss the attempts to redistrict New York's 11th Congressional District. Nothing changes the fact that this is a frivolous attempt by Washington Democrats to steal this congressional seat from the people and we are very confident that we will prevail at the end of the day. WATCH NOW ABC7: Eyewitness News Republican Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis has officially appealed the decision that ruled her district must be redrawn, according to filings posted on Monday. Staten Island has been thrust into the national political spotlight after a New York State Supreme Court judge ruled in favor of Democrats. The ruling now allows the state to redraw the boundary lines of Congressional District 11. This redistricting could possibly lead to flipping the only New York City Republican House seat from red to blue. Malliotakis has demanded that her appeal be ruled on by February 10, or else she will appeal to the Supreme Court of the United States. WATCH NOW Bloomberg: Balance of Power New York Representative Nicole Malliotakis said that while there has been good work done with border security, she has talked to party leadership about times where immigration enforcement has gone too far, saying that there needs to be 'some type of balance' between the two. The Congresswoman also discussed the possibility of healthcare reform making its way through Capitol Hill, saying that she thinks Republicans may be able to use reconciliation to get a bill passed.
