Our community thrives because we stand up for each other — especially when times are difficult. Recently, I issued a statement about troubling reports that Afghan refugees in Sacramento County — many of whom stood side‑by‑side with our troops — have been the target of ICE operations in our community. This is deeply concerning and strikes at the heart of who we are as a nation.
Sacramento is home to one of the largest Afghan communities in the country, and these families have contributed to our economy, our culture, and our shared sense of belonging. Many worked directly with our troops in Afghanistan and fled persecution, trusting America to uphold its commitments.
In my statement, I made it clear:
These families deserve full due process and humane treatment under our laws.
We cannot let the actions of one individual tarnish an entire community.
My office will continue working tirelessly to ensure these refugees are treated fairly and with dignity.
This moment reminds us why this campaign matters — to protect our values, defend our neighbors, and build a Sacramento where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
Thank you for standing with our community — our entire community.
