John,
I'm not sure if you've seen the news, but with the stroke of a pen, Ron DeSantis just rolled back Amendment 4, reinstating part of a Jim Crow-era law that was created to suppress the voice of voters. We've seen this before. Poll taxes effectively took away voting rights from people of color, and now they're trying to silence the people's voice again.
I've got news for them, John, it's not going to work, because I have faith in committed supporters like you to help us register and reengage a million voters in Florida, that will reshape our nation for generations to come.
John, that's why I'm asking you right now to click here and add your name to confirm your commitment to help power our movement to flip Florida blue and defeat Donald Trump.
Last November, voters overwhelmingly agreed that nobody should be judged forever by their worst day, and returning citizens should have the right to have their voice counted at the ballot box — without paying a poll tax.
After the passage of this important amendment that granted returning citizens the ability to restore their right to vote, it's clear that DeSantis and the Republicans in power did not like what they were seeing in the new registration numbers. Out of the thousands of newly registered returning citizens, nearly half were black, despite black voters accounting for only 13% of the overall electorate in Florida.
Republicans were terrified, John.
Many returning citizens simply can't afford to pay a poll tax to vote, and they know that. That's why they've added this financial burden on folks who just want to turn the page and have a say in who represents them and their community.
I need to know now more than ever that you're committed to helping our efforts to register and reengage one million voters in Florida, to flip Florida blue and defeat Donald Trump. Click here to add your name to let me know that I can count on your help to accomplish this important mission.
We've got a long road ahead, but no matter what barriers Ron DeSantis and Florida Republicans put in our way — we will work that much harder to overcome them, because there's simply too much at stake to throw up our hands and wish things were different.
They're going to make it as hard as they can for us to accomplish our goal, but when things get tough, this movement has always risen to the challenge, and I hope you'll join me now, too.
Let's move our nation forward, together.
