In a move that should surprise no one, Zohran Mamdani has hired a literal communist to head up housing programs. Mamdani’s move is in line with the nation’s ongoing shift leftward as the Trump administration doubles down on economic leftism. Politically speaking, he has good reasons to do so. His supporters have lost interest in market freedom and instead push for ever higher levels of government spending and more economic populism.
