USPS needs our help.
The agency projects to run out of cash by next spring -- and now is at the mercy of President Donald Trump.
Trump is not the biggest fan of the USPS. He wants to raise rates for the agency -- and has threatened to withhold funds from USPS if they did not enact major changes that bring it more profit.
Now, Trump’s Postmaster General Louis DeJoy wants to delay mail delivery.
These delays will hurt Americans who rely on USPS for critical medication and other important deliveries.
The proposed mail delays also put the 2020 election in jeopardy. Two-thirds of Americans approve of compulsory mail-in voting during the COVID pandemic -- yet changes that significantly slow down mail delivery could severely impact the timing of the election.
We need to stand up for USPS.
The USPS is an important civic institution that has provided a vital public service for Americans since 1775. It’s ability to provide swift, affordable delivery, even in remote locations, has made the service a lifeline for millions of Americans. We cannot afford the USPS to be transformed into a corporate business.
