House Republicans just dropped a 120-page voter suppression bill – and they want parts of it in effect before this fall’s elections.
They’re calling it the “Make Elections Great Again Act.” That name alone tells you everything you need to know.
This bill would ban universal vote-by-mail, outlaw ranked choice voting, force states to constantly purge voter rolls, and threaten to yank federal election funding from states that don’t fall in line. And coming right on the heels of Trump sending the FBI to raid Fulton County’s election office? This isn’t subtle. It’s intimidation.
Republicans know they’re losing support. They know their agenda is unpopular. So instead of changing their ideas, they’re trying to change who gets to vote.
And let’s be clear: this isn’t about “election integrity.” It’s about making it harder for working people, students, seniors, renters, married women, and voters of color to cast a ballot – while Trump continues to lie about an election he lost.
Voting rights experts estimate 21 million Americans don’t have proof of citizenship readily available. That’s not fraud prevention. That’s mass disenfranchisement by design.
