I just joined a coalition of 21 state attorneys general to condemn the Trump administration’s latest attempt to exploit the situation in Minnesota.
They’re pressuring state officials to illegally turn over sensitive resident data and dismantle long-standing public safety policies.

Let’s get into exactly what happened:
Over the weekend, Pam Bondi’s DOJ demanded a series of concessions in exchange for withdrawing federal immigration enforcement agents from the state.
Those demands included turning over private Medicaid and SNAP data, granting access to voter information, and rolling back critical public safety protections.
That is not law enforcement — it’s extortion.
These demands trample on state sovereignty, violate individual privacy, and attempt to sidestep court orders blocking nearly identical federal data grabs.
Don’t forget: this administration already ran these plays in California and in other states, and when we fought back, judges across the country blocked their illegal actions.
Now, the U.S. Department of Justice is now trying to force outcomes it couldn’t achieve legally — while exploiting a tragic situation to do it.
Ultimately, this isn’t just about Minnesota. It’s about whether states are allowed to govern ourselves. It’s about whether families can trust that their personal data won’t be weaponized by the federal government. And it’s about whether the rule of law still matters.
