In the wake of another brutal murder at the hand of border agents in Minneapolis, the MAGAverse is in an awkward position because they’re having a hard time selling the narrative that Alex Pretti deserved what happened to him. “They seem to have kind of come out in full force to convince their mostly female audiences that, ‘Hey, don’t believe what you saw, that’s toxic empathy … instead, you know, ICE is doing a great job,’” Tim says during today’s episode of The Tim & April Show.
That seems to be the response to the backlash from more right-leaning audiences to the Trump administration’s occupation of Minnesota — which includes some anti-gun comments from the president himself.
April points to the misogyny from influencers in the MAGAsphere seeping out in the wake of ICE’s reign. “They’re getting mad at other Christians, specifically people that they thought were on their side, right? People like conservative women. They’re getting mad at them or going on Instagram and saying, ‘ICE shouldn’t kill American citizens.’”
Then there’s the whataboutism from some MAGA influencers as they bring up former President Obama, which Tim calls out. “You can't cite Obama when it's convenient and then also say that he was the most divisive president, he was such a radical, but also he deported more immigrants than Trump. Doesn’t that prove your point then? That Obama was doing a good job in your own mind? You cannot keep up with the mental gymnastics that you have to do to make sense of all this rhetoric. It’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous. It is ridiculous.”
