It’s time to call climate change the emergency it is, John.

Just this week, California (where I live) has experienced two massive earthquakes back-to-back, Alaska hit record-breaking heat waves, and D.C. experienced nearly a month’s worth of rain in just one hour.

Hello...apocalypse anyone??

And yet, Republicans lie that they don’t believe it exists and too many Democrats either stick their heads in the sand or fight for tiny changes that barely slow the path of climate destruction!

And Trump… don’t even get me started on Trump… he just dealt a major blow to renewable energy by adding new tariffs on solar panels, his administration continues to roll back the clock on essential environmental protections and gut the EPA... and Trump Republicans mock any mention of climate change by throwing snow in the Capitol as if that somehow proves global warming is a fraud…

Yeah, because that’s how that works. *eye roll*

I want to laugh at them, but this is serious. That’s why, today, Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have moved to declare the climate crisis an official emergency, giving the government special powers to take on the crisis with resources that can meet the scale of the problem.

It’s up to us to stand by them 100%.

We won’t save our planet unless we have politicians willing to take action. Will you step up today with the resources it takes to elect more progressive candidates who will take climate change seriously by passing real solutions like those in the Green New Deal?

The time for debating climate change is well past over. As Alaska experienced record-breaking 90 degree heat, their city officials worried about the state’s infrastructure. A state built on snow and cold temperatures doesn’t exactly survive in the heat, does it?

Historic floods terrorized Midwestern communities this past year. Once again, our infrastructure wasn’t up to par. Levees unequipped to handle massive flooding and building codes too weak to resist the realities of extreme weather left thousands in damages and even took lives. Parts of the United States are becoming uninhabitable because of climate change.

And the truth is, climate change isn’t just an environmental issue. It’s about racial and economic justice. Climate change could force 120 million people into poverty in the next ten years. And on top of that, create a “climate apartheid” where the wealthy pay to escape heat and hunger while everyone else, likely mostly communities of color, are left in the dust.

I know you get it, John, but Republicans and too many Democrats in Congress don’t. On our current path, our world has an expiration date and unless we act fast, it will keep getting closer and closer.

We can turn it around. With leaders who support the Green New Deal. With progressives like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders. With victories for progressives up and down the ballot nationwide now, this November and again in 2020. Rush a donation of any amount to help DFA elect progressive leaders ready to protect and preserve our planet for future generations to come. We can’t afford to have you sit this fight out:
