ADL's AI Index: How Well Do AI LLMs Detect Antisemitism, Anti-Zionism and Extremism?
[link removed]
ADL’s groundbreaking new AI Index reveals how well six leading AI Large Language Models (LLMs) detect antisemitism, anti-Zionism and extremism. The stakes are enormous. Billions of people worldwide use these AI models to search the internet, work, learn and navigate their lives. AI can be a tool that fights hate or one that spreads it.

ADL’s AI index is the first comprehensive evaluation of how these tools respond to antisemitic and extremist content. Some of the LLMs scored far better than others, though each of the ones we studied had gaps in in their ability to detect bias.
“As AI systems increasingly influence what people see, believe and share, rigorous, evidence-based accountability is no longer optional — it’s essential.”
— Danny Barefoot, Senior Director of ADL’s Ratings and Assessments Institute
The ADL AI Index is designed for multiple audiences, including the companies that designed and maintain the software as well as those most likely to use them: educators, schools, parents and everyday users. The Index may also be used by policymakers and regulators to consider when designing AI guardrails, civil society organizations advocating for accountability, and AI model developers working to improve their systems.

MAKING PROGRESS WITH ADL
Fighting Antisemitism in the Americas: Following ADL’s designation as an Organization of American States (OAS) Civil Society Organization last November, we arranged for an OAS advocacy day this month, where ADL met with representatives of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Paraguay and the U.S. as well as with OAS leaders; we obtained significant cooperation commitments. Our focus was to ensure that protecting Jewish communities remains a top priority and that OAS member states remain committed to uplifting the memory of the Holocaust and combating the dangerous influence of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
ADL is a key partner for Jewish communities in Latin America, providing research, educational programs and advocacy. ADL’s reach in Spanish has grown through our

Urge AI Companies to Stop Generating Hate. ADL research has found that popular AI chatbots are producing Holocaust denial content, racist stereotypes and extremist propaganda. Tech companies have the capability to close these loopholes, but they won't act without pressure. Join ADL in calling on Congress to require AI companies to implement meaningful safety measures.

Better Data = Better Protection: Today, Senators Mazie Hirono (D-HI) and Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced the

Improving Reporting to Prevent Hate Act (IRPHA), a bipartisan bill endorsed by ADL that would strengthen the credible and accurate reporting of hate crimes and improve our ability to respond to the national rise in these incidents. Currently, hate crime reporting is voluntary, and according to the FBI, in 2024 more than 80% of law enforcement agencies reported zero hate crimes, while thousands did not report any data at all. This bill is a critical step toward ensuring policymakers and law enforcement have the tools they need to respond to hate-fueled violence. A House companion bill was introduced last year by Reps. Don Beyer (D-VA) and Don Bacon (R-NE).

Jonathan Greenblatt’s new essay with his clarion call for action:
“Let’s be clear: if we don’t stand up for the Jewish community and fight antisemitism, who will? It’s no surprise that half of Jewish Americans believe most people in the broader community would not stand with them against antisemitic threats. The question, then, isn’t whether threats exist, or should we respond. The question is how best to do so. There are lots of debates about how, which makes sense because there is no single answer, no silver bullet, to end the crisis of antisemitism. For ADL, we return to a framework honed across generations: protect, advocate, educate.”

Global 100 data from the podium, underscoring that Holocaust remembrance is far more than honoring the memory of the six million Jews and millions of others murdered in history's darkest hour — it is an urgent wakeup call that antisemitism “rages anew.”

He cited our research showing that almost half of the world’s adults now harbor deeply entrenched antisemitic attitudes, and that ADL’s 2024 Audit of Antisemitic Incidents recorded the highest level of incidents in our decades of tracking. This moment reinforced why “Never again” must be more than words — it must be action.
→ In Israel: On that day, we presented an overview of global antisemitism trends and ADL’s work in this area to a Knesset Committee. During the discussion, our SVP of Counter-Extremism & Intelligence Oren Segal addressed the growing challenges at the intersection of AI and antisemitism. We organized a public event in partnership with the Municipality of Modi’in to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day that featured Mayor Haim Bibas, ADL Israel’s Carole Nuriel and Jerusalem Post Editor-in-Chief Zvika Klein. And over the past several weeks, ADL conducted educational workshops for over a thousand students about antisemitism in the context of Holocaust remembrance.
→ In Washington: ADL partnered with the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus (the term President of the Council of the European Union) to

Global 100 survey. Ambassador Rosenberg read a message that Holocaust survivor Lisa Wallach Levy prepared for the event: "I am 88 years old and I am one of the youngest Holocaust survivors who are still alive... As the number of Holocaust survivors continues to fall, it is more important than ever to keep the memory and lessons of the Holocaust, so that they are not forgotten.”
→ In the Classroom: ADL’s Echoes & Reflections Holocaust education program hosted Sheryl Ochayon, Yad Vashem's Project Director, for a discussion called "Behind Each Name is a Life." Ochayon used the database and Pages of Testimony of Yad Vashem to tell students and educators some of the stories of lives lost in the Holocaust.

@ADL
We at ADL, like other civil society organizations, faith communities and ordinary people across the country, are heartbroken to see the situation unfolding in Minneapolis. The lives of two American citizens have been tragically cut short, leaving families devastated and a community reeling. We deeply respect our partners in law enforcement and value their service, but we also know that no law enforcement action should cost innocent lives or infringe on the constitutional rights of Americans. It’s long past time for full transparency, accountability and immediate de-escalation...

For the first time since 2014, there are no hostages being held in Gaza. Ran Gvili z"l was just 24. On 10/7, he left his home to defend his people, fighting Hamas terrorists until his very last bullet. He was the last hostage. This nightmare ends in heartbreak, but we are left with the memory of a hero who gave everything. To his family: we mourn with you. May his memory be a blessing.

Ye’s apology to the Jewish people is long overdue and doesn’t automatically undo his long history of antisemitism — the antisemitic “Heil Hitler” song he created, the hundreds of tweets, the swastikas and myriad Holocaust references — and all of the feelings of hurt and betrayal it caused. The truest apology would be for him to not engage in antisemitic behavior in the future. We wish him well on the road to recovery.
