John,

Every year Washington Conservation Voters endorses dozens of candidates for office but today we want to highlight several impressive candidates – two running for open house seats in the Legislature and one running for an important County Commissioner position.

Glenda Breiler, LD 22

Glenda is running for an open house seat in the 22nd Legislative District, which encompasses Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater in Thurston County. However, Glenda’s election would be a win for all Washingtonians who fight for environmental protections and justice.

Glenda is a social worker, educator, and environmentalist who would be a fierce advocate for the health of our communities. She would also be one of the only Tribal members represented in our State Legislature.

You can support Glenda from wherever you are right now by joining a phonebank on any Thursday or Saturday between now and the Primary Election. RSVP on Facebook. [[link removed]]

Tarra Simmons, LD 23

Tarra is running for an open house seat in the 23rd Legislative District which encompasses Bainbridge Island up to Port Gamble. Tarra’s campaign would be a historic win as she would be the first formerly incarcerated person represented in the Legislature.

Tarra is a former nurse, current lawyer, and national leader for criminal justice reform, and will be a champion for environmental justice in the Legislature.

She brings an intricate and important understanding of how keeping our communities safe and healthy means fighting for racial justice, voting rights, criminal justice reform, and environmental justice.

Join a phonebank for Tarra on July 30 from 4 - 8 p.m. [[link removed]]

Lorna Smith, Jefferson County Commission

Lorna is running to be a County Commissioner in Jefferson County which spans part of the Olympic Peninsula. In a busy Presidential Election year when down-ballot races can be easily overlooked, races like Lorna’s show how important it is to vote all the way down your ballot.

Lorna is a lifelong advocate for our environment and her community.

Some of the most important environmental work is driven by local elected officials and Lorna would be a tireless advocate for sustainable forestry and environmental protections in Jefferson County and all of Washington state.

We need true champions for environmental justice and healthy communities serving as leaders in Washington state, from our Legislature to our County Commissions. Glenda, Tarra, and Lorna are just a few of the amazing candidates running for office across Washington state this year.
