Hi Morganizers,
In the weeks following our campaign, I’ve had the opportunity to reflect on all that we learned and how to keep up the momentum we built. As always, my commitment remains focused on uplifting the voices of working people and mobilizing for a Columbus that works for all of us. I’m excited to share with you the first of our next projects.
We learned from our primary that the pandemic is deterring many from exercising their right to vote by exacerbating systemic barriers to voting and the impact of years of voter suppression efforts in our state. It was no surprise that the primary saw historically low turnout.
And, unfortunately, as we approach one of the most important elections of our lives this November, little has changed since April. We are still battling a deadly pandemic. Many are continuing to manage unemployment with the impending loss of federal support. And the vote by mail process, which has yet to be finalized in Ohio, likely will continue to disenfranchise the working class.
It will take a huge grassroots effort to ensure our entire community can participate in and complete the voting process. That’s why I’m so excited to partner with the Ohio Women’s Alliance, an organization focused on building grassroots, women of color leaders across the state. We plan to reach 60,000 young people and people of color across Ohio before the election on November 3rd, and we need an army of volunteers to get there. We will be phonebanking, texting, and hosting virtual town halls from now until Election Day - and we need you to get involved!
Sign up now to learn more, and join me and this amazing group of women leaders as we fight to make the voices of our community heard. You can follow the Ohio Women’s Alliance on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
I’ll also be in touch again soon about how we plan to continue organizing on the ground for racial and economic justice. Thank you for your continued support.
In solidarity,
Morgan
