BREAKING: The Senate didn't advance ICE funding – help call voters tonight to keep up this momentum >>
Huge news, John: the Senate just held its first vote on whether ICE gets another $10 billion to harass and attack our neighbors. And 55 senators voted NO. [1]
You (and the over 80,000 Common Cause members who’ve spoken out in the past week) made this happen. If you’re like me, you’ve spent over a year demanding that our representatives in Congress finally stand up and do their jobs.
John, I’m not exaggerating when I say today could finally be that turning point.
This vote was just the first procedural hurdle – and there’s real risk that once Trump turns up the pressure, senators might cave. But, it’s also the best sign we’ve gotten yet that we’re making an impact – so, now I need your help to keep it up.
Here's how: our phonebank to key swing senators on Tuesday night had a record number of first-time phonebankers, and we're holding another one tonight. So even if you've never done this before, here’s your chance >>
Thanks for all you do,
The team at Common Cause
John, this can’t keep happening in our country.
The new video footage of ICE killing yet another person in Minneapolis is horrifying – and an absolutely unmissable call to action. [2]
Now, the President is asking the U.S. Senate to fund his terror campaign to the tune of $10 billion. Our job: make sure senators finally listen to the overwhelming majority of Americans, do their jobs, and tell Trump and ICE: hell no.
Common Cause’s volunteer action team has identified which senators are most at risk of voting with Trump and ICE. So this week, we’ll make sure they hear from thousands of their constituents that they need to do the right thing.
We need members like you to help us phonebank – so if you’re as outraged and worried as I am right now, here’s something you can do right now to make a change. Sign up for our phonebank this week to maximize pressure before this week’s ICE funding vote >>
ICE is out of control. Trump’s unaccountable federal agents are:
- Pushing to enter our homes without warrants – a direct attack on our constitutional rights [3]
- Abducting children and reportedly using them as “bait” to lure parents into arrests [4]
- Escalating racial profiling and violence – targeting protesters, civilians, and anyone this administration decides doesn’t belong [5]
Voters across the country are fed up with this lawlessness. Poll after poll shows strong opposition to ICE’s actions. [6]
But last week, seven House Democrats joined nearly every Republican to ignore the American people and pass $10 billion in funding for ICE to terrorize our neighborhoods. [7]
Now the Senate has a choice. They can draw a line, hold this administration accountable, and refuse to fund these abuses – or they can be complicit.
In times like these, taking action with your fellow Americans is the best antidote to despair. So if you’re feeling the urgency, but not sure what to do, this is your time. Join our phonebank, be a part of a solution, and make sure the Senate does what’s right >>
We’ll be in touch later this week with more action items – but for now, this is the single most important thing you can do right now to change the dangerous course this country is headed down.
Thanks for all you do,
The team at Common Cause
