A moment to check in together.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Friend,
How are you doing?
I mean it, really. How are you holding up? Where do you register on your internal monitor for some key indicators, like hope and sanity?
The new year, still new, has been an avalanche of horrors.
Three days in, and the U.S. launched a military assault on Venezuela, a country with which it was not at war, kidnapping its president. Then President Trump declared himself acting president of Venezuela, boasting that he controlled its oil reserves. That led to a predictable demand from Alberta for more pipelines. Trump’s play for Venezuelan oil was used to argue that Alberta needs more pipelines, and faster. None of this makes any economic sense. Increasing oil sands production fuels global warming, raining down more misery around the world.
Meanwhile, south of the border, we recoil in shock as U.S. immigration officers have clearly murdered, without provocation, innocent Americans. And the drums of war continue their steady beat of death and destruction in Ukraine, in Darfur, and in the West Bank and Gaza. Brave pro-democracy demonstrators in Iran are being slaughtered by its brutal regime. Then there is the mind-bending craziness of threats from the U.S. to attack its NATO ally Denmark and its territory in Greenland.
So, with all that, how are you doing?
Back in Parliament this week, we face more pressure to pass bills without adequate study, including bills that take away refugee rights.
But our hope beats stronger than the drums of war.
Indigenous nations have said a solid “NO” to endangering B.C.’s northern coast with oil tankers. We know we won a campaign to protect whales and prohibit their capture or keeping them in captivity.
I am daily grateful that I have the chance to do the work of resistance in Parliament. As the only leader of a progressive party, with the NDP leaderless and the Liberals adopting Conservative policies, I do not lack for meaningful work. Every time I share Green solutions, I receive gratitude from supporters. No doubt the near-miraculous elimination of one million dollars of debt since May 2025 is grounded in that gratitude.
That’s right. Thanks to you, we got rid of one million dollars of debt in only eight months.
At the start of 2026, please make the commitment now to give monthly or find the level of support you can afford:
[GIVE MONTHLY]([link removed])
[GIVE MONTHLY MAX, $148]([link removed])
[Give one time]([link removed])
[GIVE ONE TIME MAX, $1,775]([link removed])
Helping each other, pushing for solutions, and speaking truth to power is your return on investment. Giving to the Green Party contributes to your own hope, to the shared faith that we will get through all this and leave our kids a better world.
Know that we are all in this together. Encourage each other. Stay involved and committed. When we encourage each other and support each other, we can change the world, because we have to.
Love,
Elizabeth May, O.C.
Member of Parliament for Saanich–Gulf Islands
