ICE, Nobody Wants You Here | Comedian Lizz Winstead LIVE from Minneapolis"Without trust in government, I think it will sustain because I think people fundamentally understand, we have to save ourselves and we get the government we work for and demand and ask for."“Resilience … it’s what we do,” declares Lizz Winstead, founder of Abortion Access Front and co-creator of the Daily Show, on the people of her home state of Minnesota. Fresh off of emceeing the “ICE Out” rally on Jan. 23 at the Target Center, Winstead joined Susan J. Demas explaining Minnesota’s rich history of organizing, from labor rights and reproductive rights to the George Floyd protests only a few years ago. And from those protests, a state that’s all about a sense of community built a virtual neighborhood and organized quickly in the face of Trump’s invasion. Winstead also shed light on what it really means to be “Minnesota Nice,” laughing at the idea that people in the Twin Cities and beyond would let themselves be pushed around by anyone, especially this administration. “You know, the demonization of immigrants, the demonization of the Somali community, the demonization of the trans community, you know, Minnesota has been a haven and proudly so for those communities. And so watching those communities make Minnesota better goes in direct contrast to the what we’re hearing is the problem. … And so Minnesotans just we don’t like to be fucked with in any way, shape or form. It’s just like, ‘Do not fuck with us. We have shit to do.’” Winstead also takes on the “hacks of the administration,” including Stephen Miller, who got his start Minnesota with far-right former Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. Dive into this insightful conversation on what’s really happening in Minneapolis with Lizz Winstead and Susan J. Demas here on Lincoln Square. Not ready to subscribe?
