Hi John,

You deserve to know the cost of Aboriginal title claims for taxpayers and your lawyers are ready to demand that transparency.

Your team at the CTF filed freedom-of-information requests to the British Columbia government to find out how much money it estimates the Cowichan decision could cost taxpayers.

The Cowichan decision is a court ruling that has thrown private property rights into question across Canada. The judge said that Aboriginal title can overrule most private property ownership. Your lawyers are already joining the fight to appeal the decisions. But similar cases are still popping up across Canada.

Premier David Eby has already announced he’s using at least $150 million to backstop loans for property where the title is now unclear due to the Cowichan decision. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

You deserve to see the documents showing what the TOTAL bill could be.

But here’s how the government responded to our FOI requests asking for that financial analysis:

“Most, if not all, of the records responsive to this request will be protected.”

Here’s what that means: The government is already planning to censor these documents and send back a stack of blacked out pages.

YOU deserve transparency and the law requires it.

There must be zero tolerance for government dodging accountability and your lawyers at the CTF are already preparing a legal challenge to force the government to disclose the documents.

This is your chance to chip in and send your lawyers to fight for transparency and property rights. Legal challenges like this move fast and you don’t want to miss out on your chance to hold the government accountable.

Will you DONATE today to force the government to release the hidden costs of the Cowichan decision?
