John,
One of my MAGA opponent Paul Gosar’s main priorities is to dismantle public lands—with the goal of selling them to the highest bidder among his wealthy billionaire buddies.
In Arizona, we have incredibly breathtaking and beautiful national parks, scenic monuments, and vast public lands that all are welcome to visit and enjoy. The natural wonder of this great state goes far beyond just the Grand Canyon (If you have not been to Arizona, you are missing something great—consider this your formal invitation to make the trip!).
But Arizonans also proudly honor a long tradition of respect for indigenous Tribes that includes deference to sacred Tribal lands and areas with deep cultural significance.
Most Arizonans believe that we have a duty to recognize the dignity of everyone around us and all who have chosen to call this part of America home. Public lands and respect for indigenous peoples are two cornerstones of life in Arizona.
That’s why it is so outrageous that Gosar has introduced a bill to abolish not one but two national monuments in Arizona: the Ironwood Forest and Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon.
